The Type 1 47mm Anti-Tank Gun was Japan’s first domestically designed weapon built specifically to combat enemy armour. Developed after engagements with Russian tanks, it offered only modest performance compared to other nations’ guns of similar calibre but proved adequate against lightly armoured targets.
Introduced in 1942, the weapon was already somewhat outdated by the time it entered service. Nevertheless, it saw widespread use, including as the main armament of the Type 97 Chi-Ha Shinhoto tank. Japanese paratroopers also used a version of the gun, dropping it disassembled in separate containers during airborne operations.
Models supplied unassembled and unpainted.
